The Prayer Room Key is a crucial item in Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, unlocking a special room within the Church District of the Shadow Keep in Scadu Altus. This guide will help you find the Prayer Room Key, explain how to obtain it, and show you where to use it.
Finding the Prayer Room Key
To acquire the Prayer Room Key, you need to defeat Fire Knight Queelign for the second time. If you previously encountered him in Belurat, Tower Settlement, your next battle will take place in the Church of the Crusade in Scadu Altus. This church is located northwest of the Site of Grace “Highroad Cross,” just before the soldier encampment leading to the Shadow Keep. See the exact location on the map below:

Reward: Prayer Room Key (dropped by Fire Knight Queelign)
When you enter the church, Fire Knight Queelign will appear as an invader. Defeat him to obtain the Prayer Room Key.
Using the Prayer Room Key
The Prayer Room is located in the Shadow Keep’s Church District, accessible only from the east side of the Shadow Keep near the Cathedral of Manus Metyr. This area is crucial for completing the Shadow Keep and progressing to its boss, Messmer the Impaler. Follow our guide to reach the east side of the Shadow Keep.
Steps to the Prayer Room:
Starting Point: Site of Grace "Church District Entrance"
Jump down to the rooftop directly in front of you.
Navigating the Rooftops:
Deal with or avoid the crabs on the rooftop.
Head to the other side of the quad and use a raised dormer ridge to jump to the next crumbled wall to the west.
Beware of fire enemies that emerge from the ground. Take them out with long-range weapons or dodge and run past them.
Climbing and Jumping:
Climb up the sloped wall and jump to the small platform by the outer wall.
Avoid more fire enemies and jump to the next rooftop to the west.
Defeat the Fire Knight on the rooftop using dodge-rolls and quick attacks.
Platforming Challenges:
Ready yourself for a jump to a large black arch on your left. Take a good run-up and jump to the roof above.
Drop down onto the grey arching beams below, lining up carefully to avoid falling into the water.
Final Descent:
Make your way down to the south side of the arch and jump to the upper floor.
Drop through the giant hole in the floor and follow the path to a small door in the corner of the flooded room.This door leads to the Prayer Room. Inside, you’ll find Fire Knight Queelign in distress. Exhaust his dialogue to progress his questline.
Completing Fire Knight Queelign’s Questline
To continue Fire Knight Queelign’s questline, you need to acquire one of two specific items: the Iris of Occultation or the Iris of Grace. Returning to Queelign with either item will reward you with Queelign’s Great Sword. Ensure you revisit the Prayer Room once you have one of these items to complete the quest.
